L. Animals take on Penang!

Hello Lazy Sunday!

Finally found the time to edit all my pictures, video and now, update my blog. This past few months had been real hectic and it's about to start again when assignments start flooding in.

Without further ado, here's my Penang trip.

This Penang trip is quite impromptu - my friend, out of the blue, asked us if we wanted to go Penang together cause she wanted to attend the Penang Anime Matsuri (PAM).

We took the ETS train from KL to Butterworth and OMG, the train is so cold I swear we were all half frozen by the time we reached. I HIGHLY recommend real thick jackets for this train ride because I was freezing away even in jeans and hoodie.

After 4 hours+ of train ride, we've reached Butterworth!

Let the trip commence!

Poor Bee (left) was dead frozen. As you can see, she wore shorts and t-shirt and smartypants, didn't bring her jacket. GG. Luckily, Malaysia is hot enough that once you left the train, you can feel the blazing heat.

This trip to Penang is a budget trip #brokeafbutitchyhandstillwanttotravel. Lucky for us, there is the Container Hotel.

Container Hotel has two types of room: basic hotel room with attached toilet; and the container dormitory with a public toilet - one room has about 4 or more containers so everyone shares one room but have their own container.

Our cosy container which only have one sole purpose that is to sleep in it LOL. The bed fits just right in the container. Basically what you see is what you get.

Also, I realised that there weren't much information about where we can keep our luggage so..

They actually have a cabinet below for you to store your bag. It can fit 2 small luggage bag and 2 school bags size. Usually the people that stay there are bag packers so it's sufficient for them.

Although the hotel is unlike any that I've stayed before, nevertheless it was a good experience - I especially enjoyed showering while talking to my friend as our shower cubicles are side by side.

Found a nice spot to take a picture!

After checking in, we head out to find food.

We stumbled across this shop and decided to give it a try. They're known for their handmade noodles.

The dry spicy noodle is super SUPER spicy. My friends found it quite hard to eat. On the other hand, the dry curry pork is quite good.

Of course when you're in Penang, you cannot just stop after one meal - it's a food paradise after all. One way or another, I'll definitely stuff more food in my belly. HAHA.

Next, we went to eat some nice Wan Tan Mee.

This wan tan mee is worth a try!

Poor boy though, sorry mate.

We thought we were fit enough to take on Penang. Feeling very motivated at the start but after an hour plus, REGRETS. NEVER AGAIN.

Our legs almost detached from our body that day. The following days, we decided walking was no longer an option (Uber/grab or bus is the way to go!).

On the second day, Bee had a photo shoot at Batu Ferringhi.

The night before, we were planning how to catch a bus at 6am as the nearest bus stop is quite a distance from our hotel. It's not exactly safe to walk.

THEN we found out that buses do stop at Container Hotel. OMG, super happy man #lifesaved.

I also got a mini photo shoot too!

The struggle to not get sepet eyes is REAL.

After the photo shoot, we went back to the hotel to get ready for PAM.

Pros of having a friend that cosplay, you can play with their props once in a while.

Am I Elf enough to join Lords of the Rings' Elf clan?
hahaha #pleaseignoreme.

After the event, we went to eat at Komtar.

I really like the grilled stingray, lobak and fried oyster. Those stood out to me the most.

Writing this blog post is making me hungry...

Day 3, another photo shoot outside some banks. Sounds odd but the building's architecture is really nice!

I met a local photographer, Kenny at PAM. He offered to do an impromptu photo shoot for me. It was so unexpected but here's one of the picture from the shoot.

Photographer got skills man *claphands.

Dinner for day 3, Lok Lok!
Did I mentioned I LOVE LOK LOK?

Mainly because of their chili sauce but Pulau Tikus Lok Lok is da bomb man! Highly recommending this place to all of you if you're planning to visit Penang!

It's quite popular so you can search it up on waze or google map.

#happystomach,happyface

If you're wondering,

Bee's cosplay character for PAM. Don't ask me what is she cosplaying, I'm just there to support. HAHA. #sorrybee #don'thateme.

Day 4, we went taking pictures around Georgetown.

I feel like they are scheming against me...

Szu Lynn's (a.k.a. Miao) birthday has recently passed and we planned to surprise her. It was quite funny as Bee and I was running back and forth between two malls to buy stuff. We bought her a pretty crown and party hats for the rest of us.

After dinner, we headed to China House. Miao and her bf, Jeremy went there first, Bee and I came afterwards with the cake.

BTW, thumbs up to their tiramisu cake. #Ilikey

#welcometoadulthood

Sorry need to post a picture of me too so you guys remember me LOL. #justjoking

I'd like to apologise to the workers at China House for being the last customer + taking up your time + disrupting your closing.

Day 5.

Originally, we only plan to stay for 4 days but I decided to extend my stay when I found out Olympus was having a macro photography event in Penang the next day. So I thought why not? Must be fate right (cannot be coincidence).

GUESS WHAT.

IT'S NOT.

Before I begin, please note that I went to Penang in July.

That morning, I took an hour plus bus ride to the event location, Entopia. Went to the counter to buy my entry ticket, then I asked the nice lady at the counter if she knew about this event because I wasn't sure where to gather.

Poor lady had no clue of such event that she had to called her manager to assist me.

After staring at my ticket for a while...

Manager: This is on June 4th.
Hui        :  Yeah. (Confident je)
Manager: Today is July 4th.
Hui        : ...
Hui        : OMG.

In case you're confused, let me enlighten you. I was 1 MONTH LATE for the event.

Well done me.

It was so awkward but the counter lady was so nice that she offered to refund my ticket. #greatcustomerservice #thumbs up. But since I'm already here and I was feeling adventurous...

So I went in.

That's a doodle of me - with just 6 strand of hair

Look I made a friend!

No regrets though. It was a great experience and I enjoyed myself!

Came back to the hotel, told my friends the story and they were like, out of all the mistakes people make, I've topped them all. HAHAHA

For our last day in Penang, we ate at a cafe.

On our way to the cafe.

We ate at Two Buns. It's quite near to our hotel - 5 minutes drive.

Both burgers are fantastic! #Comingbackformore

The cafe ambience is pretty rad. LUV IT. They even have a street fighter video arcade machine.

After that, we packed up and went to catch our train. We were so anxious and running like mad because we ALMOST missed the train.

#GenYproblems #procrastinators #timemanagementissue

Phew! Luckily there were some nice uncles that hold the elevator for us.

(Thank you so much you kind souls!!)

I don't even want to think of what is going to happen if we missed the train. I cannot stand the thought of being homeless.

Our trip in 3 minutes.

I will definitely missed the life we had there, eating everyday HAHA. I'm such a glutton.

Ending it with us in PJs!

Until next time!

Lighting On Point

When lighting plays a crucial role in taking selfies, this calls for..

a Selfie Ring Light!

I've came across pictures of this selfie ring light before and I was like, I NEED TO GET THIS.

But I never really know where to get it. Until recently (few months ago), my brilliant sister found an online website that sells this type of ring light!! Immediately, I started a fundraising campaign in my house to collect fund for this ring light HAHAHA.

Blessed to have sisters that often fall for my tricks and gimmicks HAHAHAHA jk I love you guys. Please continue to fund me #buaypaiseh

Anyway, I've decided to make a review video for this product just for you guys! Mainly because I think a video does more justice to the ring light compare to pictures and so that you guys would be able to judge better if you want to get one yourself.

Though the process of making this video is... ha ha ha. #dreadful #almostdied

If you guys think making a video is easy, trust me, it was not easyyy. I used to think that it wasn't that hard but damn its challenging omg.

I had to do like 2574920475 retakes because I'm such a potato and let's not start on the closing part. It took me another 1 month just to figure that out like omg pls.

Thank god I have a sister with god-like eyes and some friends to help me with my video if not, you guys would probably be able to watch it like... next year LOL.

Alas, here's the video made with my blood and sweat!!

Let me know what you think!

Hello 20 (Part II)

Hello fellow friends!

Today I'm going to continue with part 2 of my birthday post. If you haven't read it yet, you can check it out here

Adelynn and Ryan took me Social-izing at Desa Parkcity for my birthday! (Pun intended)

Just casually stirring my beloved drink.

Seafood Aglio Olio Pasta

I don't think the clams were very fresh that day but nonetheless, it was a enjoyable meal.

The Social is a nice place to hang and chill, especially for dinner because you can see fairy lights in the park from the restaurant. They also serve alcohol so for all you alcohol lover out there, look no more!

Dinner with drinks on a Saturday night? Just drop by the Social:

Lot GF-2 The Waterfront@Parkcity, 5 Persiaran Residen,
Desa Parkcity, Kuala Lumpur 52200

They open at 11:00 to 1:00 daily.

Not to mention, The Social is pet-friendly which is convenient after a walk with your dog.

Right after dinner, we went for a "stroll" in the park. #worstdecisionever

HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED

because we almost died.

It was a miracle we managed to complete a circle with our bellies full.

Ending the night with my breast friend!

Our victory photo of completing a vicious cycle in the park! #cannotlose

(By the way, that was us holding on to each other for support HAHAHA)

Until next time!

Hello 20

Goodbye teens, hello twenty!

No, guys. Today is not my birthday. My birthday was probably.. like a month ago HAHA.

Sorry it took me so long to finally, LIKE FINALLY, blog about my birthday. But I'm here now!!

Oh my god, I'm 20 already. It feels like only yesterday I was 18, bracing myself for what's yet to come in college and now, 2 years has passed so quickly!

Ever since high school ended, I swear time pass by so fast even faster than Usain Bolt's running.
SO tips for you guys (although you probably heard it a thousand time), treasure your high school years. Make the best out of it.

A lot has changed in this 2 years. Heck, a lot has changed even in a few months.

I'd say I have grown a lot over this 2 years, definitely matured more BAHAHA. If you guys seen my high school pictures.. damn I look like a bloody kiddo. Ok, maybe I do still look like a kid but hey, there has been some serious growing in my brain cells (or I think there is because I feel them twitching sometimes jk).

Other than maturing, I think I have taken some serious steps towards self-improvement. Although I would say they had been baby steps, REAL baby steps. But on the bright side, at least there are some improvements like trying to exercise everyday to stay healthy so I can still indulge in food whenever I want (super glutton wei). You must be thinking that is good progress until you know that after 1 day of exercise, I take another 2 weeks off HAHAHA.

Ok, enough with my short self-thoughts.

For my this year's birthday, I've decided to asked people out to eat or hang for my birthday. It's kind of a big deal for me because I think I'm the kind of person that waits for people to initiate something.

But this year, it's time for things to change. We should always do stuff that we enjoy on our birthday, the week of our birthday or on any other days. But the main point here is, we. So, why wait around for your friends to ask you to hang? We are in-charge of our own happiness.

And that's what I did. Not in the sense that 'Hey guys, my birthday is this weekend. Let's hang' but just to catch up, hang or chill. I invited some of my friends to go grab lunch or to meet up and took it as we spent time together for my birthday.

Honestly, it felt quite good. I feel good about myself. Also, this eliminates all the stupid expectations that we tend to build.

Not that all my friends are terrible or what, I mean, there are those that invited me out for dinner and I'm truly grateful for it.

Its more of a personal feeling - to feel empower, that I am making choices for my own happiness instead of waiting or letting others make it for me.

OMG so much deep talk in one post, this has got to stop haha.

Coming back to my birthday. My family and I had a nice lunch at Honest Bakery USJ for my birthday. The bakery is loacted at the factories area nearby my place. They have some real good pasta at an affordable price *thumbs up BIG TIME.

I forgotten the tea name but its super cool like whuutt... Redish pink tea??

Aglio - Olio Mushroom Spaghetti

This is definitely worth a try, Hui recommend!

Mushroom Carbonara Spaghetti

Wild Mushroom Spaghetti

Zuchini & Eggplant Spaghetti

This actually taste way nicer than it sounds HAHA.

Creamy macaroni (but they ran out of macaroni and replaced it with pasta for us) served along with scrambled eggs and baked beans!

Yums, bon appetit!

So far, all the pasta I ate at this bakery's are really good, so fret not when you're feeling adventurous in trying something new!

Feel free to visit them at:

26, Jalan Tiara 1, Tiara Square,
Taman Perindustrian, Subang Jaya,
Selangor 47600

Just a heads up for you guys, their bakery sign is a bit small so you might overlook it. AND I would recommend you guys to go during noon on Saturdays (not sure what are their closing time). They have a slight difference in their ingredients used during weekdays and weekends.

After lunch, I had plans with my friends and guess what?

THEY FFK-

kidding!

They turned up at my place with 20 pink helium balloons!!! 20 PINK HELIUM BALLOONS HAHAHAHA. Never in my life have I ever received so many helium balloons or even balloons.

Since I got so many balloons, picture is a must! Can't let all these precious balloons go to waste right.

Gang Mata Sepet

We were actually half-melting under the scorching sun for these pictures HAHA. #stillworthit

They also got me a few slices of delicious cake to eat AND a bear-looking cake!! So adorable

After done melting in the sun, we went to Pavilion. They had some sort of tsum tsum fair and my friend, my god, she's crazy over tsum tsum's characters haha.

Anyway, we had a nice meal..

Udon dinner at Pavilion

Until one of the saddest thing happened..

I dropped the cake box.

I SWEAR it was not on purpose. The restaurant stated no outside food so I felt bad if I put the cake box on the table hence, I decided to put in on the chair.. with my bag. And as I was digging through my bag, it fell.

GREAT. GOOD JOB JINHUI. YOU HAD ONE JOB.

I feel so sad OK. Look at my precious cakes!!! T___T

It doesn't stop my friend from going tsum tsum cray though, so I have to quickly pull myself together and ciao to tsum tsum fair. Imagine my sea of saddness pls HAHA.

Lastly, some pictures to share:

I think my head fits well with the balloons, so round like them HAHA

Ok, I think this is enough for one day so I'll continue my part II another time.

Until then, stay tuned!

xx, hui.
